Indian origin businesswoman nominated for Emerging AusMumpreneur of the Year” Award for her brand of sustainable clothing

Indian origin mom Ruchika Rawat of “Roo and Joey” has been nominated for the 2017 “Emerging AusMumpreneurof the Year” Award.

The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrates Australian Mums, who have achieved outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognise the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.

Ruchika is a physiotherapist turned mumpreneur who left her job with Department of Health and Family Welfare, India when she and her husband decided to pursue their great Australian dream! And she says they are loving every moment of it here! Her first child was born overseas and second one here.

“Starting a business is one of the most exciting adventures one can embark upon. My kids are my inspiration. I feel that being a mom has made me more creative and innovative entrepreneur”

She says during the pregnancy and after phase, she observed varying differences in styles, prices and availability of maternity and infant products. She could feel the connect and wanted to tap the segment and that was how she came up with “Roo and Joey”, an online retail store for maternity wear, fashion cloth nappies and women’s nightwear. Her business vision is “Blossoming Mums and Bubs!” She is passionate about environment sustainability and strongly advocates use of modern cloth nappies.

There are many benefits to balancing business and motherhood as Ruchika explains, “Starting a business is one of the most exciting adventures one can embark upon. My kids are my inspiration. I feel that being a mom has made me more creative and innovative entrepreneur.” She says that being a mumpreneur gave her the opportunity to work on things she was passionate about. “Operating a home based business gives me the flexibility to work and simultaneously take care of my children and the ability to set my own work schedule and be my own boss,” she says.

Ruchika says that though it can be challenging to be a successful business woman whilst raising a family, here’s her advice for mums looking to get started:”Be equipped with a good business plan, implement it effectively and never leave your tribe. Networking is very important especially social media branding.”
