Former cricketer Adam Gilchrist got his ski on at Falls Creek. And here’s why he loved it

Adam Gilchrist first holidayed with his family at Falls Creek in 2015. His kids Harry, Archie, Ted and Annie Jean had three awesome days in the Kids Snowsports School and quickly surpassed their father’s ski skills.

“In my defence, I did spend most of my cricket years with bent legs keeping wickets. My knees are what can’t keep up with the kids!” says the former Australian cricket captain, widely regarded as the greatest wicketkeeper-batsman in the history of the game, renowned as much for his sportsmanship and integrity on and off the field as for his explosive batting.

“We put the kids in the Snowsports School and by the end of their first day on skis they were following us down Wombats Ramble with no worries” — Adam Gilchrist

He is an ambassador for World Vision, served as Chair of the National Australia Day Committee for six years and is now also a fast-improving skier (just not as fast as his four kids!)

“But credit really goes to the staff and instructors at the Kids Snowsports School. We arrived all having spent very little time skiing before, and the kids had only ever been on toboggans, so very limited experience really,” says Adam, who is fondly known as ‘Gilly’.

“We put the kids in the Snowsports School and by the end of their first day on skis they were following us down Wombats Ramble with no worries. They were already confident and eager to show off their new skills to Mel and I,” adds Adam.

Adam says that by the end of the kids’ third day in Snowsports School he was looking to have some lessons of his own. “Like most blokes, I reckon I can blunder along by myself and improve just by time on the snow. Anyway, Mel and I decided to get a lesson too while the kids finished their classes. Needless to say, with the helping hand of a professional ski instructor, we were also ready for new challenges by the afternoon,” he says.

Falls Creek is renowned as Australia’s friendliest ski resort and there’s no better place for you to build your own family’s precious, life-long memories of time in the snow.
