Wyndham Library to host best-selling authors April to June

First up in April is Sue Buckingham, self-published author of a new book, Brother’s Farewell

Wyndham residents will have the opportunity to meet and talk with an amazing line-up of authors who will read from their books at Wyndham City Libraries from April to June.

Wyndham City Councilor, Heather Marcus, the Portfolio Holder for Employment, Education and Training said Council was privileged these renowned authors will be giving talks at local libraries.

“This is a terrific opportunity for local book enthusiasts to meet, learn and gain an insight from these writers. Wyndham Libraries should rightly feel proud in hosting these authors who add so much to Wyndham’s learning and cultural lifeblood,” Cr Marcus said.

The first of these, Sue Buckingham, is a self-published author of a new book, Brother’s Farewell, which is part two of the Carter Chronicles. The Carter Chronicles tells of Bess Carter, a young woman who lives in a country village called Berryfield and whose family has been running Cherry Tree Farm for generations. Bess enjoys a quiet life until the day she mysteriously travels back in time to the world of her medieval ancestors.

Also in the line-up are Toni Jordan and Jo Hirstis. Jordan, author of Our Tiny Useless Hearts, is a best seller and award-winning author who haswritten favourites of Wyndham City Library – Addition, Fall Girl and Nine Days.

“Jordan is renowned for her wit and snappy dialogue and her debut novel, Addition, won the Best Debut Fiction Award at the Indie Awards in 2008. Addition took out literary awards in the UK and was longlisted and shortlisted for other awards including the Miles Franklin,” said Cr Marcus.

Jo Hirstis the author of The Gender Fairywhich is a picture book that is an educational resource written in collaboration with La Trobe University for all children and adults to understand what it might feel like to be a transgender child. For children aged four and up, The Gender Fairy is designed to be read aloud in the classroom, or at home. It includes notes for parents and teachers to aid discussion and learning.

“Most Australians will be familiar with television’s Underbelly true crime series and the Chopper series, written by Andrew Rule, who co-wrote the books on which the Underbelly TV series was based.  The Underbelly series was immensely popular as it provided a disquieting insight into Australia’s notorious criminal underworld,” Cr Marcus said.
